Thanks to a partnership between the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Peru and Peruvian Union University (UPeU), leaders of 18 food banks in Villa Maria del Triunfo, Lima, have received specialized training in baking and pastry making.
UPeU, through its Professional School of Food Industry Engineering, has played a key role in this initiative. From May 23–June 6, 2023, workshops were held to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to produce a wide variety of bakery and pastry products.
During these workshops, practical knowledge was imparted on the preparation of French bread, egg yolk bread, whole wheat bread, marbled sponge cake, tres leches cake, empanadas, and croissants. These teachings enabled the leaders of the centers to acquire new skills that will be useful for them to become entrepreneurs and generate more income.

Engineer Jhony Saavedra, project coordinator for ADRA Peru, expressed his deepest gratitude to UPeU for its valuable support of the AYNI - Food Cooperation project. He also emphasized, "This commitment has significantly strengthened our work and has had a very positive impact on the women entrepreneurs of the common pots of Villa María del Triunfo. We are grateful for their generosity and solidarity in being a crucial ally in our mission to combat food insecurity."
Therefore, this initiative represents a significant step in the fight against food insecurity and serves as an outstanding example of how collaboration between institutions can have a positive impact on the community.
It is worth noting that AYNI - Food Cooperation is a project developed by ADRA Peru that focuses on the rescue and donation of food. This project benefits the food banks of Lima by delivering food. They are spaces self-managed by neighbors to provide food to low-income people in different areas of Peru.
