Representatives of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International are attending the World Food Summit in Rome June 8 to 13 to review international efforts to end hunger.
Sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the meeting will track progress achieved since the 1996 World Food Summit and consider ways to accelerate the process.
“Food security is a crucial part of the international community efforts to eradicate poverty,” says Byron Scheuneman, senior vice president of ADRA International. Achieving food security improves quality of life while decreasing poverty and contributing to economic growth.
ADRA’s food security projects for the next five years are valued at US$89 million and will benefit 2.5 million people. These activities usually include one or more of the following elements: agriculture, mother and child health, micro-finance, and water and sanitation.
