The Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD), in partnership with Bangladesh Adventist Seminary and College (BASC), launched a theology education program for lay pastors with an orientation and dedication ceremony on July 29, 2026, at BASC Church.

A lay pastor is a member of a church who helps lead and care for a congregation without being formally ordained or holding a high-level seminary degree.

Held under the motto, “Learning the Word, Living the Calling,” the program aims to strengthen the biblical knowledge, spiritual growth, and ministry skills of lay pastors serving across Bangladesh. Leaders from the NSD, Bangladesh Adventist Union Mission (BAUM), local church organizations, and BASC attended the ceremony.

Litton S. Halder, president of BASC, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation for the church’s support of theological education. He emphasized the importance of equipping lay pastors with a solid biblical foundation and practical ministry skills.

Won Sang Kim, president of BAUM, highlighted the important role trained lay pastors play in strengthening the mission of the church. He emphasized that theological education goes beyond acquiring knowledge and should also develop Christlike character and a deeper commitment to ministry.

John Roy, BAUM education director, also stressed the importance of continuous learning and training, expressing hope that the program would contribute to strengthening ministry throughout Bangladesh.

The ceremony began with a hymn presented by Theology Department students and an opening prayer. Mitun Beik, program coordinator, then introduced the lay pastors participating in the program. Benjamin Mrong, secretary of BAUM, offered a dedication prayer for students, instructors, and the education program.

A student representative shared reflections and expectations for the theological training through a video presentation. The ceremony also featured video messages from global and regional church leaders, including General Conference President Erton Köhler.

Following the orientation and dedication ceremony, participants will begin systematic studies in Bible and theology while receiving practical training to prepare them for ministry.
