For the month of Pink October, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sergipe adopted the Associação Amigos da Oncologia (AMO). The women assisted by the non-governmental organization (NGO) received personalized hygiene kits, headscarves, and copies of the book Hope Beyond the Crisis. During the visit and delivery of donations, the patients also received words of encouragement, love, praise, and prayers.
According to the Volunteer President of AMO, Conceição Valbino, donations will always be welcome, “but the affection and love we receive from those who visit us makes all the difference! And your visit to our NGO brought this not only to our patients but also to the home health volunteers, who also need attention and affection. I leave here my gratitude to your beautiful initiative.”
Lucinalva de Jesus has been fighting cancer for three years and has been looking to God for strength to press on. She benefited from the hygiene kit and reinforces that the donated literature will help her in this phase. “This book about hope will further strengthen me to complete this battle against cancer. With faith in God, I will have better days with peace in my heart...”, she emphasizes.
According to Vânia Oliveira, Director of the Women's Ministry at Espaço Novo Tempo de Aracaju, it was the first time that such an action was carried out. “It brought a remarkable experience to the group, seeing how a word of hope, whether sung or read through the Bible, consoles, especially these women who struggle for life. May the Lord bless us and strengthen us to bring hope to people in need and [encourage them that] Jesus will return and take us to a place where there will no longer be tears and pain.” The leader of the Women's Ministry for the State of Sergipe, Gilza Torres, emphasizes the importance of actions like these so that women in the church exercise their faith and feel useful in the community. “Doing good to others is an example that our master Jesus left us. Attitudes of this nature strengthen us as Christians and citizens. Congratulations to everyone involved in th[is] beautiful [outreach]! May more activities like these come to bring hope and the love of Jesus to many.”.
