The Papua New Guinea Union Mission (PNGUM) has donated K1 million ($US218,200) to the Trans Pacific Union Mission (TPUM) in support of the Trans Pacific for Christ evangelistic initiative.

PNGUM president Pastor Danny Philip presented the gift on August 17, saying it was a personal blessing to be part of Trans Pacific for Christ, particularly through his involvement in Fiji for Christ. Philip will be preaching at the Namaka evangelistic site during the two-week campaign. PNGUM is sending 28 preachers to serve at evangelistic sites across Fiji, and all four unions of the South Pacific Division (SPD) are sending pastors and lay people to preach across TPUM.

Philip said the contribution reflects PNGUM’s commitment to the great commission given by Jesus in Matthew 28:19: “Go and make disciples of all nations.”

He highlighted the unique mission field of the Pacific, where communities are spread across thousands of islands and often separated by great distances.

“Our islands may be isolated and scattered across the vast Pacific, but we are not forgotten in the great commission,” Philip said. “We are the ends of the earth.”

The K1 million contribution reflects PNGUM’s partnership with TPUM in sharing the gospel and advancing the mission of the Church across the Pacific. Papua New Guinea held PNG for Christ in 2024 and saw lots of success.

Across the next four years, each union will hold a similar program to the one in Papua New Guinea, with TPUM in 2026, New Zealand Pacific Union Conference in 2027, Australian Union Conference in 2028, and PNG again in 2029. In the year 2030, SPD will support their partner in mission by supporting programs in the Southern-Asia Pacific Division.

The initiatives are more than just evangelistic programs, with lots of preparation, prayer, fasting in the lead up, free health clinics and community programs and nurture and follow-up, representatives stated.

TPUM and Fiji Mission leaders expressed their appreciation to PNGUM for the significant gift and its ongoing support of mission across the region.
