The article was about a “cow bank” started by the Students in Free Enterprise team at La Sierra University, in Riverside, California, who applied the free enterprise model to a social need. The project allowed residents of rural India, who would have no other way to acquire their own cows, to “borrow” cows and pay back the “loan” with the first born female cow.
Appearing in the Journal of Adventist Education, the story won the Distinguished Achievement Award in the category of Adult Periodicals, Feature Article, at the June 8 Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) 2005 Annual Awards Banquet and Gala in Washington, D.C. This is the seventh time AEP has recognized the Adventist educators’ journal.
The AEP awards cover a wide range of categories including editorial, news story, interview and fiction with entries from the American Museum of National History, the Girl Scouts of America, Scholastic, Inc., Weekly Reader Corporation, the National Geographic Society and the Harvard Education Publishing Group.
