More than 50 people were baptized across Fiji, and many more expressed interest in studying the Bible after a three-week evangelism series aired by Hope Channel Fiji.

The series, led by Aisake Tiko Kabu, Fiji Mission ministerial secretary, and broadcast from the Newtown Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nasinu, reached homes and villages across the country through television, radio, and social media.

“Media is a powerful tool, and we witnessed how God used this medium to reach and convict individuals in their homes,” said Kabu. “The majority of those baptized watched and listened through Hope Channel, the social media platforms, and Hope FM, and gave their lives to Jesus and were baptized. This includes a blind person living in Navai Village, right in the interior of Viti Levu,” he added.

Kabu preaches at Newtown church. The three-week evangelism ended with more than 50 baptisms so far, with many expected to be baptized at a later date.

Asaeli Malewa, 77, of Kalabu Village, with his wife, also watched the series from the comfort of their homes and were baptized on Sabbath, August 24, 2024.

These interests called Hope Bible School’s Toll-Free Line and filled out online forms through a QR code to register their interest and decisions during the evangelistic series.

Asalusi Kunabuli, Hope Bible School co-ordinator, noted the high level of engagement during the series. “We received more than 30 calls every day during the evangelism,” he said. “Many are yet to be visited by us and our Hope Ambassadors and be led through Bible study as they have more questions to be answered,” he added.

Kabu has already begun recording a follow-up series to help nurture these newly baptized members who are committed to watching Hope Channel and Hope FM as they continue their spiritual journey. Kabu and a team from Hope Channel will travel to the highlands of Navosa on August 31 to baptize more than 20 souls from the same series.

Nasoni Lutunaliwa, Fiji Mission president, highlighted the significance of media in spreading the gospel. “There are more than 200,000 Walesi set-up boxes distributed around Fiji, and we believe that almost every home in Fiji is watching TV.” He expressed hope that the Holy Spirit will guide many more to surrender their lives to Jesus.
