A devastating flood swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa District along the Bhote Koshi River on August 26, causing loss of life and widespread damage across Rasuwa and downstream areas. Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities, businesses, and other infrastructure were damaged, while search and rescue operations continued as authorities worked to reach isolated communities and locate missing people.
Amid the disaster, Sanjeeb Rai, a Seventh-day Adventist member from Nepal, joined Gideon Rescue Co. in rescue and humanitarian efforts. The team traveled to Betrawoti Bazar, where they met with local residents and government officials to assess the situation and identify urgent needs.

During the response, the team rescued an elderly woman who had been trapped for 11 days. After bringing her to safety, a helicopter arrived to evacuate her. The rescue also drew attention from government officials and Nepali media, highlighting the continuing challenges faced by communities affected by the flood.
Beyond rescue efforts, the team helped residents with practical needs, including building toilets, while coordinating with local communities and government representatives. Their work provided practical support to people dealing with the disaster’s immediate aftermath.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency has also supported the humanitarian response, helping communities affected by the disaster as recovery efforts continue.
Rai’s participation in the response shows how local church members can put faith into action by serving communities in need. As recovery efforts in Rasuwa and the surrounding area continue, affected families and communities still need humanitarian support and prayer, said church leaders.
