In a bid to enhance dairy productivity and improve milk quality in Zambia, ADRA Zambia, through the Jersey Breed Focused Dairy Development (JBFDDZ) project, recently conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) program focused on clean milk production, mastitis control, calf rearing, and cattle feeding.
Among the participants was 28-year-old Silvia Litaba, an employee of LittleSun Zambia, whose passion for sustainable dairy farming continues to inspire change in her community. The two-day intensive training, held from September 30 to October 1, 2025, provided participants with hands-on skills and practical knowledge to strengthen dairy management and improve herd health.
Litaba expressed deep appreciation for the training, highlighting how it has transformed her perspective and capacity to support farmers.
“This training has equipped me with valuable knowledge to improve milk quality, boost productivity, and support farmers in addressing challenges such as mastitis and feed shortages,” she shared.
The training focused on essential topics, including feed planning to ensure consistent milk production even during dry seasons, and effective mastitis prevention methods to reduce losses and improve cattle welfare.
Litaba believes in the project’s impact in strengthening Zambia’s dairy value chain through knowledge transfer and practical skills.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this training. It was a valuable experience that will help me make a positive difference in my work and in the lives of farmers we collaborate with,” said Litaba.
Through initiatives such as the Jersey Breed Focused Dairy Development Project, ADRA Zambia seeks to continue empowering individuals and communities to enhance dairy production, strengthen their resilience, and build sustainable livelihoods across the country.
