Hundreds of families affected by heavy rains in northern and southern Peru received humanitarian aid from the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA Peru). The assistance included distributing clean water, food, hygiene kits, and shelter in Puno, Arequipa, and Piura.

The response was carried out amidst the impact of the El Niño Costero phenomenon, which has left numerous communities vulnerable. Through the work of volunteers and the support of strategic partners, ADRA Peru deployed rapid, coordinated actions to address the most urgent needs of affected families.

Aid for Puno

In the village of Chacaneque, in Puno, the cold and damp had taken a heavy toll on the homes. There, volunteers from ADRA Peru walked alongside families from Chacaneque, Tunquimi, Sapisenca, and Casahuide, carrying out a two-stage intervention.

First, they delivered materials for temporary shelters, hygiene kits, and water containers; then they returned with warm clothing, WASH kits, and cooking utensils, reinforcing the protection of those who had lost almost everything.

Impact in Arequipa

In Arequipa, the response also gradually took shape. In districts such as Yanahuara, Cercado, Cerro Colorado, Cayma, and Sachaca, aid was organized in phases: emergency food and safe water initially.

Subsequently, more supplies and storage containers were distributed; currently, the distribution of hygiene, cleaning, and shelter kits continues. The United States Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, and local authorities from the region were present during this intervention.

Solidarity in Piura

Further north, in Máncora, Piura, the scene is repeated with a different landscape, but with the same need. There, ADRA Peru is continuing the distribution of food kits and boxes of water. Some of the aid has already been delivered, and in the coming days it will continue to reach those who are still waiting, a reminder that solidarity never stops.

Donations to ADRA Peru, support from the U.S. government's Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP), collaborative work with local authorities, and the strength of Adventist volunteers have enabled a swift and effective response.
