Reaching out with the offer of “A New Beginning,” Seventh-day Adventists in the church’s South American Division have begun an outreach to inactive members. The Reencounter program will utilize personal contacts and media outreach to help those seeking a return to active participation.

Active members of local congregations will select those for whom they wish to pray, working from a list provided by the church secretary. Members are encouraged to reestablish or strengthen contact with the inactive member, paying attention to their personal and spiritual needs.

The last step of the strategy is to invite them to follow the special program that will be broadcast on TV and Radio Novo Tempo and on their social networks between the 20th and 27th of November. And the invitation extends through the weekend so that these friends go to church—following the pandemic safety protocols—in order to have an encounter with God.

Pastor Joni Roger, assistant secretary of the denomination in South America and one of the project coordinators, highlights the joy that this type of initiative brings to the Adventist community. “Just remember the previous experiences of the Reunion project; the Church was very happy to work for these people. After all, who doesn't have a family member or friend who was at 'home' and walked away? We suffer from the lack of them, and are happy when they return,” he said.
