Thousands of Clergy to Participate in Global Satellite Event

Clergy from every continent and many denominations will take part in what is being billed as "the largest-ever worldwide live satellite broadcast for clergy."

Clergy from every continent and many denominations will take part in what is being billed as “the largest-ever worldwide live satellite broadcast for clergy.” The April 10 event, to be broadcast from Edinburgh, Scotland, will take place during the second International Congress on Preaching. It is sponsored in part by the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Professional Growth Seminars, a function of Ministry magazine.

“Ministry magazine has a global circulation of 75,000 and has conducted more than 1,000 professional church growth seminars worldwide in recent years,” says Nikolaus Satelmajer, seminar director. “This will be an inspiring and educational event. The use of satellite technology means we can bring outstanding speakers to places where they might not otherwise be available.”

Entitled “Pulpits on Fire,” the seminar will explore how great preaching can rebuild a nation, a community and a congregation. Organizers say the lecturers are internationally recognized leaders “known for dynamic, life-changing preaching.” Speakers include Rear Admiral Barry Black, chief of chaplains, U.S. Navy; Leslie Holmes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; William Augustus Jones Jr., pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York; Carol Noren, professor of homiletics, North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois; and Dr. Colin A. M. Sinclair, pastor of Palmerston Place Church in Edinburgh, Scotland.

This live seminar will be geared to pastors, chaplains, seminarians, lay preachers and administrators of various faith backgrounds. It will be broadcast to thousands of sites worldwide April 10 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Churches, seminaries, hospitals, and libraries that have access to satellite equipment may host a Ministry Professional Growth Seminar. The seminar will be broadcast through Adventist Communication Network (www.acnsat.org) in North America, ADSAT in South America, and Adventist Television Network (www.agcn.org) outside of North America.
