The Adventist University of Chile (UNACH) formally launched the technology project “Integrated Web-Mobile App Platform Transfer,” a pioneering initiative funded by the Ñuble Regional Government through the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC).

The project focuses on improving public health outcomes in the Ñuble region of south-central Chile, where high mortality rates associated with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and stroke remain a significant concern.

Through the development of an integrated digital platform, the initiative aims to strengthen care coordination and improve early response—two factors considered critical in reducing mortality rates.

Technology to support emergency response

Dr. Francisco Albornoz, cardiologist and principal investigator of the project, explained the direct impact this tool will have on people's lives.

"Our role is to make available to the community a mobile technology that will reduce mortality from ischemic diseases, such as acute myocardial infarction and stroke," he explained.

He concluded, “It’s time to get to work. We expect successful results for the good of the entire Ñuble community.”

This integrated system is expected to support early detection of symptoms, improve communication between patients and healthcare providers, and enhance response times within the health system.

Collaboration between university and government

The project was formally introduced during a launch event attended by regional authorities, academic leaders, and healthcare professionals.

Dr. Anselmo Aguilera Vargas, vice-rector for community engagement at UNACH, highlighted the importance of collaboration in initiatives that aim to improve quality of life.

“This project represents a significant step in strengthening the well-being of the community,” he said.

Regional Governor Óscar Crisóstomo Llanos also emphasized the value of combining academic expertise with public service.

“The knowledge and experience of the university and its professionals are being placed at the service of the people of our region,” he said.

Strengthening public health

Organizers said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the public health system by ensuring that research and innovation translate into practical benefits for communities.
