Along with the coronavirus, there are other health concerns that persist in different parts of the world. Specifically, at this time of the year outbreaks of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease, are a major concern for many communities around the world. This year, members of the Missão Calebe project in the Jardim Eldorado neighborhood, in Palhoça, in the interior of Santa Catarina, decided to contact the local City Hall to offer assistance in combating the virus. Officials of the City Hall embraced the idea and made folders, bands, gloves, and other necessary material in order to educate the nearby Brejarú community about the disease.

In all, 30 calebs participated in the project and filled about 25 large garbage bags with items that could accumulate mosquito larvae. “We also provide[d] for the removal of standing water in houses in the neighborhood. We certainly did not collect everything we would’ve like[d] [to], but our greatest hope is that the community will mobilize and become aware of the example of [these] young people ”, explains Mayara Pereira Rosa, group coordinator in the Jardim Eldorado neighborhood.
The residents of the communities served were also invited to a spiritual program on January 17th. “One helping the other and doing good for the neighborhood itself. This is also showing the love of Christ ”, concludes Mayara.
