Seventh-day Adventists in Northeast Brazil are ready to do their part for Sow 1 Billion, said participants at a launch rally held in Recife earlier this month. Over the coming year, lay people in this region of Brazil will distribute 16.5 million invitations to study the Bible as their contribution to the worldwide Sow 1 Billion effort, a plan to hand out 1 billion brochures worldwide inviting people to study the Bible.
Pastor Jan Paulsen, world church president, and Pastor Ruy Nagel, president of the church in South America, spoke to the more than 1,200 church members who filled the Recife Central Church to overflowing for the Sept. 1 launch. Pastor Paulsen commended those present for their commitment to outreach, and for the way they are making sharing their faith a part of their everyday lives.
Church leaders in Northeast Brazil say they are “preparing for spectacular power from the Word of God” through Sow 1 Billion. Pastor Francisco Souza, personal ministries director for the church in that region, says they hope that for every four people who receive a brochure, one will show interest in studying the Bible.
The church in Northeast Brazil has also produced 40,000 special Sow 1 Billion billfolds, which will provide a convenient way for people to carry a supply of Bible study invitations with them each day.
The theme of the small brochures, which each region of the world church is adapting and printing, is “Don’t Be Afraid.” Each brochure provides ways for people to receive Bible studies—either through Bible correspondence courses, small group Bible study, or personal follow-up. An important part of South America’s follow-up plan is a Web site created especially for Sow 1 Billion, www.naotenhamedo.com.br, which will allow people to complete Bible study lessons online.
Also launching Sow 1 Billion this month are Adventists in Northern-Asia Pacific, East-Central Africa, Southern-Asia Pacific and Inter-America.
