April 5, 2025, marked a noteworthy milestone for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This special Sabbath will be remembered for the inaugural launch of World Ambassador Day, a new initiative of the General Conference Youth Ministries (YM) Department.

This event, bearing the theme “Living for IMPACT,” comes on the heels of the March 15 installment of Global Youth Day, a well-established initiative originally launched in 2013. The two ministries are built on a common foundation of encouraging and challenging young people to live their faith and commit to sharing the love and reflecting the character of Jesus Christ.

World Ambassador Day is distinguished by its streamlined attention to the 16–21 age bracket. The event’s official website offers the reasoning for this focus: “As Ambassadors graduate from … Pathfinder[s], it is vital to provide programs that resonate with their identity to ensure their sustained involvement … within our church community. They are at a critical stage of life, transitioning from adolescence to adulthood.”

Pako Mokgwane, GC YM associate director, shared his perspective on the value and necessity of this ministry.

“Being an Ambassador means you are more than ordinary. Yes, God’s desire for you is to live an extraordinary life of impact. It is not about waiting for the future to make a difference; no, it is about stepping out and making a difference now,” he said.

Many young people demonstrated this mindset of making a difference now, as service projects spanning the entire globe fulfilled this first installment of World Ambassador Day. Sources indicate over 120 nations reported active participation, with local churches and Ambassador clubs, conferences, and unions organizing a variety of events that reflected cultural diversity and spiritual unity.

In the East-Central Africa Division, Ambassadors in Kenya organized a community clean-up and mental health awareness walk in Nairobi. In the Inter-American Division, churches in the Dominican Republic held street concerts featuring youth-led worship and testimonies.

The Davao Mission Cluster 4 Youth Ministries in the Philippines integrated young people from different districts to engage in outreach efforts such as singing songs, offering prayers, and distributing groceries to community members in need.

“As Ambassadors for Christ, we are entrusted with the mission to be His hands and feet, bringing light and hope to the world,” said Phoebe Kette Reubal, president of Cluster 4. She also extended a reminder that this is not a one-day-a-year venture.

“Our journey as Ambassadors doesn’t end here. It’s a continuous commitment to embody the values and teachings of Jesus every day. Let’s go forth and truly live for impact,” she said.

Other group leaders and youth participants alike provided glowing feedback. Linda, a club leader based in South Africa, said, “The first ever World Ambassador day was nothing short of amazing. The more you get the opportunity to minister in various places the better you start appreciating the concept of ‘army of youth.’ Ambassadors are truly the most gifted group of people we have as a church and a generation.”

“Youth leading youth—this is what today was about,” stated Ruth, a club leader in the United Kingdom. “I saw my members step out of their comfort zones and step into leadership.”

A young person from Indonesia exclaimed, “Today I felt like I made a difference. World Ambassador Day reminded me that Jesus calls us to love in action, not just words.”

World Ambassador Day participants followed the examples of prominent Bible figures and answered God’s call to all His people.

“God created us to be involved in His work. ... Just like He told Adam in the Garden of Eden to till the soil and name the animals; just like Jesus formed a group of disciples ... so that they could be of service to Him; you are expected to be of service to Jesus and to be involved in the mission of the church,” said Busi Khumalo, GC YM director.

Mokgwane highlighted GC YM’s role in supporting the initiative, which includes “providing comprehensive resources (in four languages — English, Portuguese, Spanish and French), strategic guidance, and global coordination to empower local churches and youth leaders in engaging Ambassadors.”

Other key facets of support are resource development, global coordination, and promotion.

Youth leaders see World Ambassador Day as more than a date on the calendar; it is a movement, they state. As Ambassadors around the world step into their calling, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is committed to further empowering them to become involved in the great commission because their time to serve is now.
