The Rescue on the Street Project of the Central Adventist Church in Blumenau, in partnership with professionals from the Consultório na Rua, of the Municipal Health Department (SEMUS), served a Christmas dinner for street dwellers in the city last Sabbath, 11 December.

Meals were served in tents set up by the volunteers at Praça Fritz Müller, in the Victor Konder neighborhood. Chairs and tables with towels and Christmas decorations were provided. In addition to the meals served in a buffet, at the end of the dinner, visitors received Panettone, Christmas cookies, clothes, and shoes. In all, 40 visitors attended the dinner.

Reception Before Serving Dinner

The program began at 6:50 p.m. with the presentation of some songs by the band Jovem Awaken from the Central Adventist Church, followed by a welcome to the guests by representatives of the Rescue on the Street Project and the team from the Consultancy on the Street. After these moments, the local pastor, Antônio Muondo, gave a biblical reflection.

Constant Support

The Rescue on the Street Project develops a work of care and love for the homeless population for over five years in the city. According to the project coordinator, Adilso Pereira, in addition to the Christmas dinner, the group also carries out biweekly social actions in places where the homeless are: streets, sidewalks, and public squares.

Over the past two years, the shelters that welcome homeless people have also received visits and support from volunteers from the Rescue on the Street Project.
