The Adventist University Center of São Paulo (UNASP) celebrated its 110th anniversary on May 17, 2025, with a commemorative worship service held at the church on its São Paulo campus in Brazil.

The event featured musical performances, messages of gratitude, and the participation of institutional leaders, Adventist Church administrators, and civic authorities. Stanley Arco, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South America, delivered the spiritual message, reflecting on the institution’s long-standing contribution to the Church’s mission.

The program included performances by the orchestra and grand choir of UNASP’s São Paulo campus. Throughout the event, musical groups revisited the institution's history through song.

Wanderson Paiva, president of the 110th Anniversary Committee, explained that this service is one of several commemorative activities planned on campus throughout the year.

Afonso Cardoso, campus director, invited attendees to reflect on memories made at the institution. A video presentation highlighted historical images of UNASP. “Look to the future,” he concluded.

Three pioneers were recognized during the program: Nevil Gorski, Helio Serafino, and Dilza Garcia. Edna Teles, director of Basic Education at UNASP São Paulo and event organizer, emphasized their legacy.

“Moved by faith and vision, our pioneers did everything in their power to make this dream come true,” she said. “Thank you for looking to the future with faith.”

President Dr. Martin Kuhn thanked all who contributed to UNASP’s development.

“There are no limits to a person’s development, as long as they allow God to use them. UNASP is made up of people who choose Adventist Education, fulfilling the mission of educating and serving,” he said. He added that these 110 years of history demonstrate that “serving Jesus is worth it.”

In his message, Pastor Arco recalled key moments in UNASP’s development and emphasized its foundational role in advancing God’s work. He affirmed that the task of education has existed since biblical times and continues through the mission of UNASP.

Yearlong Anniversary Activities

The commemorative worship service was the highlight of the 110th anniversary celebrations, but several other events are planned throughout the year.

Earlier in May, a historical parade was held on campus, with students representing figures from the school’s founding to its future vision. The celebration blended historical reflection with creative student engagement.

In the second half of the year, the São Paulo campus will host additional events, including a special edition recording of the Adoradores project by TV Novo Tempo, a concert featuring UNASP composers, and a Thanksgiving service.

More Than a Century of Mission

Founded in 1915 as “Adventist College,” UNASP initially focused on training young people in theology, preparing them for roles as teachers and pastors. Students came to live and study at the institution, beginning their journey in higher education.

As the Adventist Church expanded in Brazil, UNASP grew alongside it, adding academic programs and expanding its student offerings. In 1999, the Adventist Institute of Education officially became the Adventist University Center of São Paulo (UNASP), incorporating the São Paulo and Engenheiro Coelho campuses. In December 2018, the former São Paulo Adventist Institute (IASP) in Hortolândia joined UNASP, completing the tricampus structure.

Today, UNASP continues to serve its founding mission—educating and equipping young people for service to God, the Church, and society.
