Taiwan Conference Initiates First Church Plant on Outer Island

The only means of transportation between Taiwan and Kinmen are planes and ships. It was through online discussions and a prayer group that church planting became possible

The Taiwan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, committed to preaching biblical truths across the nation, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, initiated the first church plant on an outer island in Kinmen. This strategic move, taking place in November 2022, marks a significant expansion of their mission to guide residents toward Christianity and prepare them for Christ's return. After 70 years without a church on these islands, Kinmen emerges as the chosen location, primarily due to the presence of three Adventist families who anchor the new church's foundation.

This pivotal decision, driven by the need to nurture and equip local disciples, received full backing from the conference president, Pastor Tom Sun, underscoring the importance of relying on the Holy Spirit’s influence over careful planning. A preparatory committee, established to oversee the church's development, navigates the challenges of distance and logistics, primarily connecting with Kinmen's congregation through digital means due to the island's remote access by plane and ship.

In a significant step towards spiritual unity, a prayer-line group was formed in February 2023, fostering a stronger bond among believers through regular online prayer sessions and spiritual practices. The collaborative efforts culminated in an appreciation service on October 14, celebrating the successful establishment of the church in Kinmen. This event highlighted the dedication and faith that have driven the project, marking a new chapter in the spiritual life of the island's community.

The establishment of the Kinmen Church, achieved through months of online collaboration and onsite preparation, is a testament to the Taiwan Conference’s commitment to its mission and the power of faith in overcoming geographical barriers. This new church stands as a beacon of hope and faith for the residents of Kinmen, embodying the conference's vision of spreading the Gospel and preparing for Christ's second coming.
