“Suddenly, everyone realised that the war had begun”

Real Stories Of Ukrainian Refugees—Part One

According to the United Nations (UN), millions of people have already fled Ukraine due to the conflict that started on February 24, 2022. These are mainly women and children who were forced to leave their homes and families.

Millions of people in Eastern Ukraine are currently dependent on humanitarian aid. The current escalation led to mass migration towards the neighbouring countries of Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, and Moldova.

Adrian Duré, producer and documentary filmmaker for Hope Media Europe, and his team were at the border between Ukraine and Romania during these last days and produced a few stories of people entering into Europe and looking for safe places on our continent.

“It was an incredible and tremendous experience for us,” admitted Duré. “Yes, the many faces of refugees show ‘relief’ for having escaped the war, but behind every step, every metre, and every kilometre travelled, there is the sadness of having lost everything, a longing for their abandoned homeland, dark memories of the bombers, the traumas, and the unclear horizon.”

Duré and his team got a request from Hope Channel International to do a mini-series of short films focused on stories of people leaving the country.

“The main goal of this project is to motivate European citizens, through the stories, to help refugees, to support the work of ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency), and to help the millions of people that are leaving the country right now,” explained Durè. “So, I coordinated the production and recorded some stories there.”

The Hope Media team contacted their colleagues from Hope Channel Ukraine and together produced incredible and powerful stories.

This series is a part of the global Hope Channel and ADRA Campaign called “HOPE FOR UKRAINE”. Here is the first video clip produced by the Hope Media team under the coordination of Duré: https://youtu.be/D6lw1TKe9sg
