Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church Hosts Worship Workshop for Pianists

Spencerville Church hosted its first “Music Workshop with Dr. Erwin Nanasi” on Jan. 18. Nanasi serves as the associate pastor for Music and Worship at Spencerville Church. The first event, held at Spencerville Adventist Academy, focused on piano playing and drew around 20 participants from churches across the conference.

The workshop featured three one-hour sessions where Nanasi lectured, answered questions, and demonstrated examples on the piano. Topics included piano technique, sight reading, and playing under pressure, and learning to accompany with different styles while facilitating worship and overcoming the fear of making mistakes. The event also included light refreshments.

Nanasi said he chose to start with the piano because it remains the most prominent instrument used in most churches. The workshop is the first in a series designed to equip church musicians. Future workshops will address conducting choirs, song leading, and songwriting. The next event will be held in March.
