Resources obtained were converted into 150 basic baskets and protective masks to benefit families in the city of Umburanas.
A generous donation from ENGIE Brasil means 150 families in the northern region of Bahia will have food and protective masks, highly necessary supplies during the current coronavirus pandemic.
The donated goods—purchased with a $1,200 (US) gift to the Adventist Solidarity Action unit—were distributed at the Umburanas Seventh-day Adventist Church, an outpost in a city of 17,000.
ASA turned the money into the food baskets and supplies, which were distributed to vulnerable families in the area. “We conducted a survey in our region so that food is delivered to those who really need it. With this donation, we will help the community Rua da Barragem, here in Umburanas, and the villages of São José, Angical and Campo Largo,” explained Pastor Erivaldo Santos.
Adventist volunteers take the donations to the homes those registered with the charity. Jessica Silva was one beneficiary thrilled to receive the food: "I am very happy for the donation that the Adventist Church gave me, and I just have to thank everyone," she said.
Fernanda Oliveira, an ENGIE Brasil employee, helped with some of the deliveries: “We were introduced to all the actions developed by the Adventist Church and we realized they are able to help a good number of people. It was then that we suggested the partnership so that together we could, in this pandemic period, reach a larger number of families,” he said.
More than 100 volunteers took to the streets and shops to collect donations and thus help those in need. In this pandemic period caused by the new coronavirus, the group has already delivered 220 basic baskets and masks to needy people across the region, a total greatly helped by the energy firm’s participation.
