Two students from the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Zaoksky Theological Seminary were attacked by a gang of 15 young people April 16 while waiting on a train platform. Elshan Diabarov and Rustam Ahmedov, both citizens of Azerbaijan, were taken for medical treatment and later released. The alleged attackers, all students at a local public high school, have been caught. It is not clear whether or not the ethnic background of Diabarov and Ahmedov was a motive for the attack. Russia has endured an unusual number of hate crimes during April, the anniversary month of Hitler’s birthday.
