Romania: National Broadcasts Break New Ground

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Romania is dramatically increasing its presence in the national media with the launch September 9 of a locally produced T.V. program that will be broadcast five afternoons a week. The program, “In the Center of Attention,” will be seen in homes across the country on RealitateaTV (RealityTV), a national public network specializing in news and information programming.

Producers of “In the Center of Attention” say the one-hour program will focus on young people, family, education, health and current news, and will reflect an Adventist philosophy and lifestyle. The positive message of the program has already received endorsements from a number of public figures, including Constantin Balaceanu-Stolnici, a member of the Romanian Academy, and a member of the National Advisory of the Romanian Orthodox Church, who was interviewed on the program.

The premiere of “In the Center of Attention” follows the launch three months ago of the first Adventist program to be regularly broadcast on public national television in Romania. “Life at its Best” is a weekly program that airs midday on Sundays. It consists of 20 minutes of local production presenting human-interest stories, and interviews on family, education, health, and spirituality. This is followed by a subtitled segment provided by It Is Written, from Adventist Media Productions in Simi Valley, California, United States.

Brad Thorp, director of Adventist Television Network, the church’s international broadcast organization, says the launch of the latest program is a groundbreaking event for the church in Romania, and he calls the five-day-a-week production a “monumental task.”

“In the Center of Attention” can be seen on cable stations across Romania, and by satellite in Europe and North America. Both programs are produced by the media production unit of the Adventist Church in Romania. This studio is an Adventist Television Network production center.
