The reading campaign ‘Peru Does Read’ will distribute two million copies of the book “Hope for Families” in Metropolitan Lima.
The “Peru Does Read” campaign has been designed by the Peruvian Union University (PUU) to celebrate 100 years of the institution. That is why it was launched with the objective to promote and encourage the practice of reading in Lima, Peru.
On its release day, the official hashtag ‘Perú sí lee’ [‘Peru Does Read’] was trending on Twitter, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Many readers supported the initiative because of its importance to cultural development. 35% of Peruvians claim they read, mostly newspapers, and some books.
As part of the campaign, some people, such as the journalist Valia Barack and Federico Salazar, and businessman Roque Benavides, have been selected as ‘Reading Ambassadors, due to their dedication to reading.
‘Peru Does Read’ will have its focus day next May 4, when a 100,000 people will distribute 2 million copies of the book “Hope for Families,” as part of the celebration events for the 100 years of the Peruvian Union University.
