The Penang Adventist Hospital celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2025 at Gurney Plaza on August 3, 2025, drawing mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends into a “circle of love” around every breastfeeding journey. With the global theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems,” hospital leaders and families affirmed their commitment to supporting breastfeeding mothers and their infants.

YB Lim Siew Khim (林秀琴), Penang State executive councillor for Social Development, Welfare, and Non‑Islamic Religious Affairs, joined the event, underscoring that breastfeeding support extends far beyond hospital walls and is a shared responsibility across communities.

The hospital extended heartfelt gratitude to its sponsors and partners—Gurney Plaza; Aiwibi Baby Care; Dermally Malaysia; Jazz Hotel Penang; Goodealbb Mum & Baby store; M.I.A Nursery & Preschool Jelutong; Suzuran Baby Malaysia; RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus; and student nurses from the Adventist College of Nursing and Health Sciences—whose generosity made the day possible.

Breast milk supplies ideal nutrition and builds immunity, helping protect infants from common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and respiratory and ear infections, and may reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It supports growth and development during the first year and remains a vital source of nutrients into the second year.

For mothers, breastfeeding can lower the risk of postpartum depression, certain cancers (breast and ovarian), cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disorders and help with postpartum recovery. It also fosters stronger mother‑child bonding and improvements in mental health, reducing maternal stress and symptoms of depression.
