Pastor Claude and Yvonne Judd both celebrate 100 years of life

Having served actively in ministry across Australia since the 1940s, Pastor and Mrs. Judd are well-known and much-loved members of the Avondale Lifestyle Community.

Pastor Claude and Yvonne Judd, who celebrated their 100th birthdays in April and June respectively, don’t take their century of life for granted.

Sitting holding hands and telling stories of their lives filled with memories—stories that are just incredible—it’s clear that they are still very much in love.

Both born in 1920, Claude and Yvonne remember World War II very well. So, when asked what they think of the current COVID pandemic, Claude shrugged his shoulders and simply said, “It is what it is”.

Claude and Yvonne were married in Glen Huon, Tasmania, when they were 23.

After 77 years of marriage, I just had to ask, “What is the secret to a successful marriage?”

Claude smiled, laughed, and replied quickly, “Communication.”

Claude and Yvonne have four sons, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. When asked if there are any great-great-grandchildren on the horizon, they both laughed.

Throughout their marriage, Pastor Judd has touched so many people through ministry, youth leadership, and as the conference president for South New South Wales, Victoria, Greater Sydney, South Australia, and the Tasmanian Union. He has also married more than 100 couples.

He did all of this with Yvonne and the boys by his side.

When Yvonne was asked, “How did you go constantly packing up the kids and moving all the time?” she quickly replied, “Sometimes the going gets tough, but you hold onto God’s hands and it will be all right”.

Claude and Yvonne explained that they simply walked where God told them to walk, ministered where God told them to minister and when God was silent, they listened.

When they finally decided to slow down, they knew that the Avondale Lifestyle Community at Cooranbong was going to be their home.

Adventist Senior Living is very proud to have had Pastor and Mrs. Judd call Avondale home for the past 20 years. It is an honor and a privilege.

As I thanked them both for having me, I asked for just one piece of advice. Pastor Claude said, “Just listen to what God calls you to do.”

What an absolute legacy, inspiration, and life they both have led.
