The idea for London Live started with a few friends sitting at lunch. We spoke of the need for a community that is passionate, challenging to us as Christians and one that connects young London professionals in a post-modern society. The vision grew. God has, and still is, opening door after door.

So what is London Live? It’s an authentic community of young adults passionately seeking God’s purpose for their lives, challenging their faith to make a real difference in central London. The first two evening events were held May 19 and June 9, each drawing more than 200 people.

The night began with friends gathering in a café followed by praise music, drama and a challenging message by Pastor Eddie Hypolite. He spoke about “The War on Indifference” and the need to make real commitments to things that matter. This was not just another enjoyable program that passed without making a difference to anyone. People made real commitments that night.

On the second evening, June 9, London Live members Nicholas Thomson and Murray Harvey hosted the event, welcoming the audience and creating an environment that allowed people to recommit and reconnect their lives to God—and of course kept us interested. More than 30 young, service-minded Christians were involved in providing a program for young people who were looking for a greater meaning in their life.

The main feature of that evening was an up-beat message delivered by Pastor Grenville Kent from Australia. Grenville said there are so many reasons to doubt the power of faith these days, and cited how “The Da Vinci Code” has recently helped to discredit Christianity among some people. However, he went on to highlight the many building blocks of our faith as Christians and how we have so many reasons to trust and believe in Jesus.

Grenville also demonstrated that intelligence and Christianity are not mutually exclusive and that God is actively seeking a relationship with us. Many thought Grenville’s presentation was honest, heartfelt and challenging.

We ended the evening relaxing in the café. We shared our thoughts and experiences over complimentary drinks and healthy snacks.

These Friday night events are not mere entertainment; they are a celebration of the other aspects of London Live. These include, “London Life Groups,” that meet in homes, cafes or parks. These groups help us to get to know each other a little better and God a whole lot better. In addition to these spiritual meetings we also have “London Live Sport” that combines socializing and physical activities.

Among participants, there is a sense of personal fulfillment, says Lowell Baricanosa, part of the video production and editing team.

“In practical terms, I have discovered a real sense of connection and commitment through small groups. We meet weekly and talk about life and the impact of God in the big issues and details of our lives,” Baricanosa said.

“I highly recommend this, just knowing someone is praying for you helps you know others care. More than ever, [we are] finding more opportunities to share God with people who are seeking answers,” he said.
