A Traditional Publishing House with a Future

The Advent Publishing House (Advent-Verlag) was founded in 1895 by Ludwig Richard Conradi in Hamburg, with the aim of spreading Adventist literature throughout the world from the port of Hamburg. Today, 125 years later, Advent-Verlag GmbH is a modern publishing house, currently with 16 employees and a subsidiary, Wartberg-Verlag GmbH. Advent-Verlag GmbH is a registered company that was recently set up for the future. "We recently initiated a generational change in the publishing house and confidently handed over the management to the new generation. It is important for the new team to be supported by the expertise of longstanding publishing house employees, thereby keeping the rich tradition and history," says shareholder representative Pastor Johannes Naether.

Words that Last

“'Words that last' is not just a slogan, but has been the DNA of the Advent Publishing House for 125 years,” says publishing director Jessica Schultka. "Although the range of tasks has changed in recent years, the core competence of the publishing house has always been the publication of Adventist books, magazines, and study materials which, then as now, aim to encourage people to think about God," Schultka continues. In order to be able to guarantee this for the future, the editorial team works daily on the publication of books on topics related to theology, pastoral care and experiences of faith, devotional books, study booklets, journals, and magazines that promote, deepen, and accompany faith.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg was a guest at the publishing house. Sönke Feldhusen, Deputy General Manager of the IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg, presented a certificate of honour on the special occasion. "We are proud and thankful for our tradition-rich past, because the Advent Publishing House is a formative part of Adventist history in Germany," said Managing Director Neef. As a publishing house, there are also employers in the Lüneburg region that have been securing jobs here since 1994. They were therefore delighted that the Lüneburg-Wolfsburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce was honouring this event with them.

The Advent Publishing House

Since 1895, the Advent Publishing House offers readers direction in life and meaning and addresses these holistically and across generations. According to their own description, they want to inspire readers to reflect on God and live an authentic, biblical faith in everyday life by promoting, deepening, and accompanying it in a sustainable way, according to their motto: "We create words that last.”

Ceremony Postponed to 2021

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the planned anniversary celebration had to be postponed until next year. Insights into the work and everyday life of the Advent-Verlag Lüneburg are available online at: https://advent-verlag.de/wir-feiern; and as a video: https://youtu.be/VGdTzIPaJGQ.
