“Just as an artist dedicates himself to his work, a nurse surrenders to save a life!” This is just one of the phrases of thanks written in letters made by Seventh-day Adventist Education students in Blumenau as part of a special project. The letters were delivered to the nurses at the Hospital Santo Antônio on May 12th - International Nursing Day.
In addition to the letters, some students drew drawings and dressed up as nurses to honor the professionals. The children's purpose was to take advantage of the commemorative date to thank the work, often tiring and exhausting, carried out by these health teams during the pandemic of the new coronavirus.
Oath of profession principles
Nurse's Day was instituted in honor of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910). It is so important for the profession that in every graduation or graduation of the Nursing course, students read the following oath written by her:
“I swear, freely and solemnly, to dedicate my professional life to the service of the human person, exercising nursing with awareness and dedication; keep without secrecy the secrets entrusted to me, respecting life from conception to death; not voluntarily participating in acts that put the physical or psychological integrity of the human being at risk; maintain and elevate the ideals of my profession, obeying the precepts of ethics and morals, preserving their honor, their prestige and their traditions. ”
Tribute with security
Because of the pandemic, the children paid homage at the reception of the medical unit, without having close contact with health professionals and other local employees. All were instructed to wear a mask and maintain social distance, as recommended by medical authorities.
