Staff put discipleship into action during their year-end picnic
Central Papua Conference (CPC) workers based at the administrative headquarters at Ela Beach, Port Moresby, decided to put discipleship into action during their end-of-year picnic on November 20 at Fishermen Island, about 45 minutes by boat outside of Port Moresby.
Staff members with their immediate family members boarded several dinghies and arrived at the Island to celebrate the efforts of workers in achieving the milestones in what has been year focused on discipleship.
Settlers on Fishermen Island are mostly fishermen originally from the Hood Point area of coastal Rigo, Central Province. However, there is a small group of believers numbering no more than 20 and a missionary volunteer, Russell Heni, has been stationed there by the Taikone Seventh-day Adventist church. They meet for worship at the temporary shelter on an elevated portion of land.
A few of the members, especially children, with Heni were present, and received SHINE boxes gifts by the Children’s Ministries Director Ruth Batu. Conference Secretary expressed words of admonition to the church members on the island and gifted three boxes of Bibles for their congregation.
During the picnic’s planning stages, the social committee heading by Batu, emphasised the intention for CPC staff to model what real discipleship involves in one of the new sites near Port Moresby. The location of Fishermen Island, despite the efforts, was worth the trip and the day was well spent.
Plans are in progress to further support members on Fisherman Island as well as other parts of the Conference in 2018.
