A major medical campaign was held from March 29 to April 2, 2025, at the Amanecer Family Health Unit (USF) in Boquerón, a neighborhood of Areguá located 22 kilometers from Asunción, Paraguay’s capital. Organized through a partnership between the Asunción Adventist Sanitarium (Sanatorio Adventista de Asunción, or SAA) and AdventHealth, the initiative provided free medical services to 1,884 patients.

Throughout the health fair, attendees received cardiology and laboratory evaluations, health education sessions, and medication. Specialties included family medicine for adults and children, cardiology, gynecology, urology, psychology, and ophthalmology, with free eyeglasses distributed. Ultrasounds, electrocardiograms, Doppler ultrasounds, Pap smears, and HPV tests were also offered. Younger visitors participated in children’s workshops.

“We’ve been pleasantly surprised by the turnout,” said Dr. Juan Castro, director of the SAA. “Beyond the range of specialized care, each woman received a voucher for a mammogram at the Adventist Sanitarium, aligning with our Cancer Prevention and Awareness Month initiatives.”

Local Councilman Hebert Roa expressed his gratitude, saying, “I thank God for the wonderful care offered by the Adventist Sanitarium. Without their support, it wouldn’t have been possible to treat so many individuals and see them leave with hope. We appreciate the commitment of the doctors, nurses, and pastors over these five days.”

Seventeen volunteer professionals from the United States worked with USF personnel and SAA medical staff. Support from the Municipality of Areguá, ADRA Paraguay, and the local Adventist Church also proved vital for logistics and patient care.

“This is my third year coming to Paraguay for missionary work,” said Brittany Browning, project leader for AdventHealth. “Our doctors are thrilled to help the community in their areas of specialization. Through AdventHealth, we donated toothbrushes, medications, and eyeglasses to those in need, along with an ultrasound machine for the Adventist Sanitarium. With God’s help, we plan to return annually to continue providing medical care.”

Nearly 90 individuals requested Bible studies during the event. The Areguá Adventist Church is already coordinating follow-up visits to offer further spiritual guidance.

“I leave here feeling truly blessed,” said resident Alicia Núñez. “We received medicine and healthcare, but also words of encouragement. My children are happy they were seen by the doctors, got their medicine, and can start feeling better. May God bless everyone who provided this service with such love, effort, and dedication.”

This charitable event is part of pre-Easter outreach activities aimed at sharing hope with local communities. The Asunción Adventist Sanitarium continues its commitment to delivering holistic healthcare to Paraguay’s population.
