In the wake of Cyclone Maila, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Solomon Islands has responded to 137 households across three of the most affected villages in South Kolombangara, Western Province.

The villages of Poporo, Ghatere, and Vavanga were identified by ADRA assessments as among the hardest hit.

Families affected received non-food items (NFIs), food supplies, hygiene kits, and blankets. The distribution was carried out by ADRA Solomon Islands in partnership with World Vision Solomon Islands (WVSI), with additional support from the Western Sub Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

ADRA Solomon Islands worked closely with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) in Honiara to deliver NFIs and hygiene kits across Western Province, supporting rapid response efforts in affected Kolombangara communities.

The agency also collaborated with the Provincial Disaster Operations Center (PDOC), the Western Provincial Government, and other stakeholders to conduct assessments in severely affected villages on Vella Lavella. In partnership with WVSI, ADRA delivered NFIs to these communities.

In response to the disaster, ADRA activated its emergency response plan and worked alongside the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) and NDMO in Gizo to provide timely assistance.

ADRA Solomon Islands is now coordinating with partners and donors to support ongoing recovery efforts across Kolombangara, Simbo, Ranongga, and Vella Lavella, while maintaining strong collaboration with PEOC and NDMO.
