On July 6, 2025, during the 62nd General Conference (GC) Session in St. Louis, Missouri, delegates elected Leonard A. Johnson as one of seven general vice presidents of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the 2025–2030 quinquennium.
Johnson has served the church for more than four decades in pastoral and administrative roles. Since 2018, he has been secretary of the Inter-American Division. He previously served as president of the Atlantic Caribbean Union (2010–2018) and the Bahamas Conference (2003–2010), as well as secretary of the Bahamas Conference.
A passionate evangelist and communicator, Johnson helped launch a television ministry and led initiatives such as Volunteer Bahamas Adventists (VBA). He reached 1,000 baptisms in a single year on multiple occasions and oversaw the construction of the new Bahamas Academy.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in theology, a master’s in religion, and a Doctor of Ministry degree. He is also a published author and, in 2017, was honored with the Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG), one of the UK royal family’s highest recognitions.
Ordained to pastoral ministry in 1986, Johnson is known for his strong spiritual leadership and dedication to mission.
The election is part of the broader decision-making process of the GC Session, where global delegates gather every five years for worship, prayer, and organizational leadership decisions.
