Initiative against hunger will bring food to 5,500 families

Aid will be collected and distributed by the Adventist humanitarian agency for those whose income has been compromised by the pandemic

In the last quarter of 2020, data collected by the Brazilian Research Network on Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security revealed that 19 million Brazilians were suffering from hunger and the new coronavirus pandemic has played a considerable role. Therefore, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Brazil launched a new program focused on the collection and distribution of resources to people whose income has been compromised since the beginning of the crisis caused by Covid-19.

Over the course of two months, the Share Hope campaign, as it was titled, will serve 5,500 families in Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima, Rio Grande do Norte, Maranhão, Pará, Pernambuco, and Ceará (regions that, according to an ADRA survey, were highly affected by the crisis). Priority will be given to homes that are not assisted by any government program or other entities, as well as single-parent families, pregnant or lactating women, elderly dependents, or those with chronic diseases or special needs, among other criteria.

With a monthly credit of $120.00 (Brazilian Real) limited to the purchase of food products, the assistance will be provided by means of a card linked to the CPF of the family representative. The individual card will allow flexibility for families to select their own food, as well as reduce food waste and logistic and storage costs, when compared to the delivery of a traditional basic food basket. In addition, Sodexo, the card management company and ADRA's partner, will make a donation of up to 2% of the total value of the project, which will be converted into recharges for the beneficiary families.

On April 24th, a promotional live programming event, in partnership with Gravadora Novo Tempo, the food industry Superbom and the Adventist publisher Casa Publicadora Brasileira (CPB) will offer benefits to participants who make donations to the initiative during the live program, which will be broadcast from 4 pm on youtube.com/gravadorant. However, contributions can be made at any time.

As usual, at the end of the Share Hope campaign, ADRA will publish details of the total amount of money collected, distribution locations, and the number of beneficiaries on its official channels.
