The first-ever Chinese Outpost International Centre (OCI) Convention, held from July 10-14, 2024, at Aenon Health Care in Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, gathered 300 individuals from across the globe with a shared mission: to inspire, connect, and support independent ministries worldwide. The event gave attendees a platform to explore profound spiritual insights and strengthen their relationship with Christ through encouraging sessions.

OCI (Outpost Centers International) is a global network of lay ministries dedicated to advancing the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. By connecting and nurturing hundreds of supporting ministries worldwide, OCI plays a vital role in organized gospel outreach, mobilizing the laity to actively share the Adventist message across diverse communities.

Pavel Goia, editor of Ministry Magazine and associate ministerial secretary in the Adventist General Conference (GC), led a number of poignant sessions to kick off the convention. Goia emphasized the importance of prioritizing genuine love for Jesus. The opening session, “Do You Love Jesus?” urged participants to examine their commitment to Christ, highlighting the dangers of allowing material attachments to hinder spiritual growth.

In the subsequent session, Goia addressed the subtle ways in which distractions can derail believers from their spiritual focus. He called for a renewed sense of urgency in preparing for Christ’s return, stressing that now is the time to set priorities in alignment with divine purpose.

The theme of total surrender to God was further explored as the session challenged attendees to go beyond seeking blessings and to focus on deepening their relationship with God. Pastor Goia emphasized that true spiritual transformation can only occur when believers are fully committed to serving others and making God their ultimate treasure.

Goia also warned against the risks of spiritual complacency. He drew parallels between modern believers and the disciples in Gethsemane, urging attendees to maintain constant communion with God through prayer and active service. The session served as a wake-up call for those who may be going through the motions of faith without truly engaging with the presence of Christ.

The program's emphasis shifted to the importance of daily worship and obedience to God’s guidance. Participants were reminded that success in spiritual endeavors requires a steadfast focus on God’s presence and the willingness to follow His commands, even when they challenge conventional understanding.

Workshops run by renowned speakers further enhanced the convention. Topics, including family relationships, education, personal ministries, and leadership, were further discussed during the meeting. These sessions provided practical insights and strategies for applying spiritual principles in various aspects of life and ministry.

The event provided opportunities for delegates to share their stories through powerful testimonies on Sabbath afternoon. Independent ministries from around the world shared their experiences, offering a moving glimpse into how God is working through diverse initiatives. This session, along with the contributions of Dr. Dosung Kim, OCI field president for South America, shared about the work in Bolivia, served to inspire participants to further commit themselves to the cause of God.

The OCI Convention 2024 concluded on a high note. Attendees left with a renewed commitment to advance God’s work. Goia’s final charge to “go forward for the cause of God because God is with us” resonated deeply, setting the tone for future efforts in global ministry.

While the date for the next convention has yet to be finalized, it is expected to take place in late July or early August 2025. Attendees are encouraged to mark their calendars and prepare for another opportunity to unite in the mission of inspiring, connecting, and supporting global ministries.

This inaugural Chinese OCI Convention has set a high standard for future gatherings, demonstrating the power of unity and shared purpose in advancing God’s kingdom.
