Carlos Moisés da Silva, the governor of Santa Catarina, received students from the Adventist School of Tubarão (EAT) at Casa D'Agronômica, in Florianópolis. The visit was organized to congratulate the students who were recently awarded at the international Math Kangaroo competition. In all, there were 13 medal winners from the school unit. They were welcomed with breakfast this Wednesday by Silva and his wife, Késia (Martins).

Adventist Education students have had great results, so much so that today we received a group of students awarded at the math [competition]. In addition to education, there is a legacy of behavior and socialization for children who attend Adventist schools. This is the first group of students we've received this year, something we were constantly doing before the pandemic. It's an intellectual performance we're recognizing. And we took the opportunity to say that this visit is also useful for them to understand a little bit of politics”, commented Governor da Silva.

The first lady had her professional career developed in the classroom. She talked with students about the importance of being good citizens and dedicated students. The governor further highlighted his relationship with Adventists. “I got married at the Tubarão Adventist Church. At the time, my wife was from one religious denomination and I was from another. To reach a consensus, we decided to get married in the Adventist Church. Another point is that in my time as a broadcaster I also put [on the air] some Adventist programs, such as Pastor Anísio Chagas, who [often uttered the phrase] 'My brothers and my friends.’ In addition, I attended several Adventist establishments in Tubarão, where I worked for 18 years.”

“This visit is a recognition of what God provides for these students. They dedicated themselves so much to their studies. Furthermore, it is an incentive for the coming years and for other students. The governor was very human, highlighting points of Adventist Education,” explains Douglas Antunes, mathematics teacher.

Débora Laís, gold medalist at Math Kangaroo, commented on the joy of visiting the governor: “Super cool coming here. Meet the governor, his wife, and this beautiful house. The governor was very attentive to us, very polite.”
