The Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Public Campus Ministries will hold its yearly global PCM Weekend during a special online event Oct. 16-18, 2020. The event will draw thousands of Adventist students who study on public campuses across the world to be reassured of their mission as Christians in impacting change in the world in sharing hope in their communities.
“The weekend is designed to empower Seventh-day Adventist students to be disciples of Jesus and share the everlasting gospel in and outside the campuses where they study,” said Pastor Pako Mogkwane, associate youth ministries director in charge of public campus ministries for the Adventist world church. The weekend will be an opportunity to also examine ways to foster peace and teach others how they too can experience this peace and remain relevant on campus and the community, he said.

“We want students to learn from those who have gone ahead and stretch a hand for those who are coming after you,” Mogkwane said.

The event will be broadcast Live on the Seventh-day Adventist Public Campus Ministries Facebook Page beginning, Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (or Miami Time), and Sabbath, Oct. 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon Eastern Time (or Miami Time).

“It’s about showing our community that we need our God who comes today, tomorrow, and every weekend after,” said Pastor Gary Blanchard, youth ministries director for the Adventist world church.

Inter-American Division’s Public Campus Ministries Director Pastor Hiram Ruiz said that in addition to the church’s global PCM program, two special programs will be held online on Sunday, Oct. 18, for students and recently graduated professionals across public campuses in the territory.

“There’s a great need for many who through the recent lockdown of the pandemic must reinvent themselves, generate income, and work from their homes to support themselves,” said Ruiz. “We thought it was a good opportunity to host a special entrepreneurship event featuring business experts to help them transition from graduation into running their own businesses.”

Coined as the Entrepreneurship Festival, seniors and young professionals who have recently graduated can take part in the 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm (Miami Time) training event. The event will provide translation in English and French.

In addition, all PCM students and church members ages 20 to 38, can take part in a series of short talks on Oct. 18, to help first-year and current university students to find their strengths and focus on the path they need to take career-wise.

Presentations on Sunday evening Oct. 18, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Miami Time, will include topics such as emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, building resilience in the changing times, the economy, and future employment.
