Closed for more than a year after Tropical Cyclone Yasa damaged its hall in December 2020, the Deuba Campground in Fiji was reopened on August 14, with Pastor Nasoni Lutunaliwa, Fiji Mission (FM) president, officiating at the dedication ceremony.

In his public address, Pastor Lutunaliwa said the campsite is a business arm of the church and thanked the contractors for the well-done renovation work. “The campsite has been idle for some time, and this event is indeed a boost for the church in Fiji.”

Lutunaliwa added, “Reviving the use of the campsite is part of the FM strategy, and we will ensure it grows and is well maintained.”

According to Apisalome Seru, FM’s chief financial officer,, the renovation took longer than expected due to COVID-19 lockdowns in 2021. “The venue is now open to members of the community and churches for use. There are other areas in need of repair, which the mission will continue to work on.”

Seru added, “We have been receiving inquiries about the picnic and camping venue for a while, and now we can start accepting bookings and interested groups.”

After the reopening ceremony, FM staff spent the day at the campground for a picnic, which closed an intensive week of training and professional development.

“We thank God for His provision and allowing us to reopen the campgrounds—a place of relaxation and leisure for our members and the public,” said Pastor Lutunaliwa.
