Ministry leaders and departmental representatives from across Europe gathered in Lyon from May 7–10, 2026, for a significant training event titled Faith Beyond Borders: Cross-Cultural Connections in Europe. The program was organized by the Inter-European Division (EUD), with support from the Trans-European Division (TED), and brought together participants from 20 countries, representing the Inter-European Division, Trans-European Division, Euro-Asia Division, and the Middle East and North Africa Union (MENAU).
The event served as an important platform for dialogue, collaboration, and professional development, focusing on the growing need for effective cross-cultural ministry within an increasingly diverse and secular European society. Delegates representing the Office of Adventist Mission, Women’s Ministries, Personal Ministries, and Health Ministries participated in a carefully structured program designed to equip leaders with practical tools and fresh perspectives for mission in contemporary Europe.
Throughout the training, speakers from several divisions addressed the opportunities and challenges involved in reaching communities that have traditionally remained untouched by conventional forms of evangelism. Particular attention was given to engaging individuals with little or no prior exposure to Christianity, as well as those from diverse cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds.
Presentations explored a broad range of relevant themes, including cultural sensitivity, community engagement, relational evangelism, and the importance of holistic ministry. Emphasis was placed on developing approaches that reflect compassion, understanding, and genuine human connection. Health ministries were highlighted as especially valuable in creating bridges of trust within local communities, while personal and women’s ministries demonstrated the importance of intentional relationship-building and practical service.
One of the defining features of the training was its practical and collaborative nature. Participants were encouraged by inspirational presentations and by opportunities to exchange experiences, discuss ministry challenges, and share successful outreach initiatives from their respective territories. These interactions fostered a strong sense of unity and mutual encouragement among delegates serving in diverse cultural settings across Europe and beyond.
The program further underscored the reality that missions within Europe can no longer rely solely upon traditional methods. Speakers repeatedly emphasized the necessity of adaptability, cultural awareness, and authentic engagement in order to reach increasingly secular populations. Participants were challenged to think creatively and from a mission-driven perspective, while remaining firmly grounded in Christian values and principles.
Beyond the formal sessions, the gathering in Lyon offered a valuable opportunity for fellowship and intercultural connection. Leaders from different nations and divisions built meaningful relationships, strengthening cooperation and reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing the Gospel throughout Europe.

Participants returned to their respective fields inspired to continue building bridges across cultures, communities, and backgrounds, recognizing that effective mission transcends national, cultural, and linguistic boundaries.
