Emergency Aid Ukraine—Two Fire Trucks Arrive in Kiev

Today (Friday), Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the city of Kiev, received two fire trucks from ADRA Germany. The fire trucks are part of the Ukraine emergency aid that ADRA has been implementing, together with Aktion Deutschland Hilft, since the beginning of the war.

In mid-July, Christian Molke, chairman of the board of ADRA Germany, traveled to Poland to facilitate the delivery of two fire trucks. The trucks are equipped with special extinguishing foam devices, which are used to fight class A (solids) and B (liquids or substances that become liquid) fires. They were received and put into service today by Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the city of Kyiv.

"In Kiev, civil infrastructure is under attack. Among other things, this results in fires of fuel storage facilities and highly flammable chemicals. To extinguish these fires, the Kiev Fire Department needs special fire trucks equipped with firefighting foam. We were able to obtain two vehicles in Poland and hand them over to Dr. Bogdan Balasynovych, representative of the city of Kiev. Tobias Kurzmaier, chairman of the Aktionskreis für Wirtschaft, Politik und Wissenschaft e.V. [Action Group for Economy, Politics and Science], gave us fantastic support as an advisor and contact broker. The vehicles have meanwhile been received by the mayor of the city of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko," Molke pleasantly reported.

Video Message from Mayor Klitschko

In a video, Mayor Klitschko thanks ADRA. "Thank you very much for your help and modern fire trucks. Your support is very important for our safety. Hopefully, the end of the war will soon be reached."

"Our thanks go to Aktion Deutschland Hilft, which, together with ADRA, secured the funding. We are happy and grateful to be able to make a substantial contribution to firefighting. The fire trucks will save lives," says Molke.

Already in June, ADRA was able to purchase two mobile computer tomographs and hand them over to the city of Kiev. The two CT scanners are in use in a municipal hospital and pediatric clinic.
