Congo: "People of the Forest" Join Evangelistic Effort

A group of 37 lay Seventh-day Adventists have left their remote jungle home to join an urban evangelism effort in the city of Butembo, Congo, report local church members.

A group of 37 lay Seventh-day Adventists have left their remote jungle home to join an urban evangelism effort in the city of Butembo, Congo, report local church members. Known as Pygmies, or “people of the forest,” these individuals rarely leave their local region. The group came to support an evangelistic series that is drawing a nightly attendance of some 4,000 people.

Organizers of the outreach program say the involvement of the Pygmies is significant. “They have traveled for miles just to share the love of Christ with the ‘elites’, the merchants as well as the [other] city people of Butembo,” says one church leader.
