“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. So, Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:7, 11-13).

Jesus, by God’s will, has chosen every one of us to become workers for Christ’s body, the Church. He has given us heavenly gifts to share so we all may grow mature in faith and in the knowledge of Christ. He has called us, the Golden Angels, to become singing evangelists for the sake of the gospel, and now, one full year of this singing mission has come to an end. 

From November 12 to December 17, 2017, our final mission as the Golden Angels was five weeks of five different evangelistic meetings held in five different places in Taiwan: Taitung, Beitun, Shalu, Douliu, and Pingzhen. At each church, we met many church members, seekers, and those who came to church for the first time. We mingled with them and shared our experiences in Christ to encourage each one of them. By singing songs, by having conversations with them, and of course, by living our daily lives, we prayed and tried our best to reflect the characteristics of Christ. I sincerely pray the seed of the gospel we planted in them will grow in their heart to grow mature in Christ and they will all grow to become His workers of the gospel. 

I want to mention an activity we participated in at Shalu Church, called “The Mommy Club.” Shalu Church provided a place for moms who take care of their little children at home to come together and enjoy the program the church prepared. This activity was promoted by word-of-mouth to the mothers at home, and many mothers in town brought their little children to church. 

This time the Golden Angels didn’t concentrate much on singing, but rather, we were basically babysitting for the whole week! To be honest, it was not easy. In fact, it was quite hectic and chaotic. But we observed the mothers and their children were enjoying the program. Each day as we continued the program, more moms, and even dads, came to Shalu Church to join the Mommy Club. 

Soon enough, the church had become a place of social welfare! Shalu Church met the needs of the society. They connected themselves to the people outside and made relationships with them. The church was doing its service for the local people, and those who didn’t even know about Jesus were coming to church. Moreover, the continuous work of the church bore fruit through these relationships. One soul received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and got baptized on Sabbath morning. Now, she and her two children have become members of the Shalu Church.

As I observed these things happen in this church, I learned how important it is for the church to fill the needs of society in order for us to be examples as Christians. Every church should be a social welfare center! Church, the headquarters of evangelism, should focus not only on the inside, but should go out to society and serve them with the heart of Christ, for Jesus has called us to do so. 

Jesus has given us gifts for the purpose of service. Let us now go and reach out to the world with one spirit, one mission, make this world a better place, be united as Christ’s body, and grow in fullness of Christ. For this mission, indeed, we need each other. 

The five weeks of Taiwan mission is now over. Our one year of Golden Angels ministry is done. I have to say it has been a journey–a journey of experiencing God. I confess it was not we who ministered and led the people to Christ, but God has done all things for us for the glory of His name. Hallelujah, praise His name! We give all glory and honor to God, who has used us as His instruments for His mission. This may be our last mission trip as Golden Angels, but we will continue to be missionaries wherever we are and wherever we go. 

Now we hold the promise of Christ and His command: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of age.” (Matthew 28:19-20). Now we will go and continue to live a missionary life.
