Church in Chile hosts online prophetic biblical symposium

Concepcion, Chile | Raúl Salamanca Muñoz

The event took place May 15-16.

Considering the limitations which COVID-19 has imposed on large gatherings, the South Central Association of Chile (Adventist sub-headquarters in Chile) organized a high-level online biblical symposium using their Facebook and YouTube social networks. The hope was to reach as many interested participants as possible by leveraging their reach on popular social media.

The symposium brought together academics and researchers from Chile and abroad who offered their presentations live from their own homes in three separate blocks, each covering several hours.

Objectives

"This symposium aimed to recognize the time in which we are living in the light of biblical prophecy, establish biblical principles for the interpretation of holy scripture, and apply the prophecies of the Bible to our modern lives with an emphasis on a message that provides hope," explained Pastor Diego Medina, evangelist for the Central South Association of Chile and organizer of the event.

The speakers

Guest speakers and their topics included Dr. Alberto R. Timm, "Speculations of the Final Events;” Dr. Walter Alaña, "From the City to the Field;" Dr. Carlos Olivares, "Anguish and Aope in the End Time: A literary reading of the Apocalypse;” Dr. Sergio Celis: “The Final Outcome of the Conflict: The vindication of the character of God;” Major Pablo Millanao, "The Sealing and the Plagues;" and Major Joel Leiva, "Adoration in Revelation 13."

In addition, this event featured a multidisciplinary panel of experts which addressed the theme, “A Christian Perspective on the COVID-19 crisis: The pandemic and the prophecy,” attempting to dispel doubts which arise from crises such as what we are currently experiencing.
