Pako Mokgwane, Associate Youth director of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, delivered a stirring challenge to Cabo Verdean youth at the inaugural Western Sahel Union Mission Youth Congress. Held at the National Assembly in Praia from September 4 to 7, 2024, the congress brought together around 300 young Adventists, with leaders from local and regional church bodies, as well as government officials, in attendance.

Drawing inspiration from Matthew 5:14, which declares, "You are the light of the world," Mokgwane called on the youth to spread the light of Christ across every island, municipality, and neighborhood in Cape Verde. His message emphasized the need for young people to translate their faith into action, becoming positive agents of change in society.

“It is a great joy to know that we can count on the support of the government,” said Mokgwane, acknowledging the presence of Cape Verde’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Carlos do Canto Monteiro. He underscored the collaborative role between the Adventist Church and the government in addressing the challenges faced by youth, ensuring that such initiatives align with biblical principles.

The congress also featured street evangelistic rallies and public preaching, led by church leaders from the GC, West-Central Africa Division (WAD), and the Western Sahel Union Mission (WSUM). The event culminated in the graduation of 85 Senior Youth Leaders (SYL) and the baptism of 25 individuals, marking a spiritual milestone for the Adventist youth in Cabo Verde.

As the congress concluded, Mokgwane encouraged the young attendees to continue their mission: “Young people, shine for Jesus and make a difference in your community.” With this rallying cry, the youth of Cabo Verde are now returning to their communities, ready to spread hope and faith throughout the nation.
