God is love. This is the summary of divine revelation. To express his infinite and incomprehensible love, God decided to sculpt: he created man and woman, implanted in them what he feels for us, and united them in marriage. In the book “Amores Básicos” (CPB) (Basic Love), Víctor Armenteros, author of several works in Spanish, presents the essential loves that underpin human relations, from the creationist perspective:Chosen as a book in the 2021 Reading Course for university students, Basic Loves is a profound reflection on God, love, and marriage. With artistic sensitivity and refined linguistic knowledge, these three elements are exposed from a biblical perspective.
The supreme love: God
The planned love of God between a man and a woman: Marriage
Family love: between parents and children
In just nine chapters, Armenteros shows the greatness of God's love and the care with which he created the world, and, above all, man and woman. Armenteros points out that the Lord planned the union of the couple and the complementarity of their genders. He idealized the differences between them in order to complement each other physically and emotionally. By ordering them to grow and multiply, God was giving mankind the ability to generate other beings and change the perspective of the world by connecting them with the future.
The author also reflects on the problems in relationships and the reification of the other, and how it is at odds with God's plan and biblical description. The Bible is not sexist, God is not and neither should we be. God values men and women equally. Armenteros highlights the importance of love and keeping the commandments in the couple's relationship. It reflects on this not only in the relationship between the human being and God, but in the expression of love in the couple's relationship and in society.
The last chapter of the book contains an analysis of sexuality and shows that, since creation, intimate relationships have been part of God's plan. God did not establish sex only for procreation, but for union and mutual satisfaction under the blessing of marriage. The unique beauty of Armenteros' work is his enchanting analysis of the book of Song of Songs by Solomon. He analyzes the images in the book, what they referred to in the culture of the East and what they mean for couples.
