In its ongoing mission to share the message of hope, Adventist World Radio (AWR) in East Java (EJC) has made significant strides in ministry by combining innovative broadcasting efforts with impactful community outreach. From engaging listeners through shortwave, streaming platforms, and podcasts to creating care groups that touch lives in local communities, AWR continues to expand its reach in East Java and beyond.
For the past two years, AWR has used multiple channels, including Spotify and YouTube, to broadcast in Balinese, Javanese, and Indonesian. Recognizing the diversity of its audience, the station recently began producing programs in the Madurese language, a milestone aimed at connecting with one of Indonesia’s culturally rich communities.
While broadcasting remains at the core of its work, AWR has ventured into hands-on ministry to bring Christ’s message directly to the people. In late 2023, care groups were established in several locations in Singaraja, Bali, where local members could gather for fellowship, spiritual support, and outreach activities. These efforts bore fruit early in 2024 when a care group at the Singaraja Correctional Facility celebrated the baptism of a new believer. This moment marked the culmination of prayers, Bible studies, and dedication from both AWR volunteers and local Adventist members.
In addition to its spiritual outreach, AWR has embraced opportunities to serve communities in tangible ways. Collaborating with public campus ministry (PCM) and Adventist youth in Jember, the organization distributed free iftar meals to residents during Ramadan, an effort symbolizing the station’s commitment to building bridges across cultures and faiths. Volunteers, proudly wearing AWR t-shirts, shared not only meals but also friendship with the people of Jember.
As AWR continues to innovate, its leaders remain focused on their mission to prepare hearts for God’s grace and the promise of eternal life. “Through broadcasting in multiple languages and forming community connections, we aim to be a blessing to people of all nations, tribes, languages, and tongues,” said Kurnaedi, Communication Director in East Java.
Adventist World Radio in East Java exemplifies the power of combining media and personal ministry to fulfill the Great Commission. From reaching remote listeners through digital platforms to touching lives face-to-face, AWR is proving that the gospel knows no boundaries.
