Leaders and guests from ten European countries gathered at the Nazna Adventist Church in Romania from April 18–20, 2025, for a weekend of spiritual renewal, mission focus, and international collaboration. The event marked the spring Board Meeting of Adventist-Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI) Europe, a network of Seventh-day Adventist professionals, businesspeople, and lay members dedicated to integrating faith into their daily work and public witness.

Established to support the global mission of the Adventist Church, ASI empowers its members to “Share Christ in the Marketplace” by using their talents and professions to serve others and advance the gospel. ASI Europe operates within the Inter-European (EUD) and Trans-European Divisions (TED) of the Adventist Church.

United in Mission

ASI Europe now comprises 19 national chapters across 22 countries, representing Adventist entrepreneurs, professionals, and members committed to “Sharing Christ in the Marketplace.” The board weekend in Romania served as both a strategic planning session and a time of worship, inspiration, and connection.

Ian Sweeney, field secretary for the TED, presented spiritual messages throughout the weekend, encouraging deeper personal commitment to the Church’s mission. The weekend also celebrated the official establishment of ASI Italy, which was voted in as the newest chapter of ASI Europe.

Delegates from Switzerland, the UK, Scandinavia, Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal, and other countries shared testimonies and updates on evangelistic initiatives. Representatives from Andrews University also presented recent research findings on spiritual leadership, offering tools to integrate faith more intentionally into leadership and outreach.

A Vision Realized in Romania

A highlight of the weekend was a visit to the MEDEX Oncology Hospital in Târgu Mureș—an initiative led by ASI Romania and inaugurated in July 2024. The hospital stands as a model of faith-based medical ministry and is seen by ASI leaders as a beacon of hope and healing for the region.

“MEDEX Oncological Hospital is God’s gift to people, and I encourage us not to take this gift for granted,” said Remus Bența, president of ASI Romania. “Despite the challenges we have faced and will continue to face, we put our trust in God and move forward steadfastly, fulfilling the benevolent work to which we are called.” The verse “He has made everything beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11) was a guiding inspiration behind the project’s fulfillment.

Worship and Witness

Throughout the weekend, worship services featured music by the Nazna Church Choir, the Voces Group, and the Nazna Brass Band. Lay member testimonies offered a powerful reminder of how God is working through professionals across Europe to share the gospel in practical ways.

Expressions of Gratitude

Reflecting on the decision to hold the board meeting in Romania, Carlos Dias, president of ASI Europe, praised the leadership and vision of ASI Romania.

“Last October, ASI Europe decided to hold its 2025 Board Meeting in Târgu Mureș to express our appreciation for ASI Romania’s outstanding work in recent years,” Dias said. “The MEDEX Oncology Hospital is a true inspiration across Europe, demonstrating the realization of the vision—the plan—and the fulfilled mission.”

He added, “The hospital tour and discussions over the weekend have sparked new dreams and challenges for all of us. Congratulations to ASI Romania, the Adventist Church leadership, and the Nazna Church—celebrating its 100th anniversary—for being such wonderful hosts! May God continue to bless you all. ASI Romania can count on our prayers. Thank you, Romania!”

A Call to Action

ASI Europe continues to invite Adventist members across the continent to join in consecrated, mission-driven service. Through its national chapters, ASI empowers members to integrate faith into their daily lives and professional environments.

“Today, God calls each of us to fulfill our mission,” said Casiana Fometescu, vice president for membership development and growth. “ASI Europe invites you to take part in this mission—to take the Good News to the ends of the earth.”
