David Prieto lives more than 130 kilometers from Hernandarias, a city located in the southeast of Paraguay. He is a young man who resides in a rural area with limited access to resources and opportunities. However, he found salvation in an analog television and an old antenna.
Prieto known for his passion for technology and his self-taught ability, decided to experiment with an old antenna he had found. Using an application on his cell phone and searching for satellite codes on Google, he managed to capture the signal from Nuevo Tiempo, the Spanish Christian TV channel and radio station for Central and South America.
“Four months ago, he decided to use this system to get the Nuevo Tiempo signal. He had never heard anything about this channel, or about the church. He can’t explain what prompted him to look for this signal. He just kept going until he got it,” says Lionel Celano, pastor of the Hernandarias missionary district.
An Antenna Leads to the Church
For several months, Prieto followed the programs closely and was captivated by the message of hope and faith they conveyed. On one occasion, he heard an invitation to attend an Adventist church on Saturday. He began asking around town if they knew any Adventists. He ended up at the home of some church members, but discovered that they had recently moved to another municipality.
He didn’t give up. His search eventually led him to Tierra Prometida Adventist Church, which was being built by Caleb Youth (volunteers who dedicate vacation periods to missions) in early 2024. One Saturday morning, Prieto showed up at the church, eager to learn more. There he met Cantalicio Cristaldo, an Adventist from that church, who was amazed by the story and saved his contact. From that moment on, they began communicating regularly via WhatsApp.
The district pastor comments that “David shared the message with his family and together they learned more about biblical truths. Today David and his brother Jorge are prepared to give their lives to Christ, while his family continues studying and wants to deepen their knowledge about the Adventist Church.”
"The story of David reminds us that God's power can overcome any barrier. Sometimes, the simplest and most humble things can be the means through which He performs His wonders," he concludes.
