Hurricane Help—The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has committed U.S.$1 million to Katrina relief and is continuing to raise money for the disaster area. ADRA is partnering with Adventist Community Services, the church’s relief network for North America, and other church organizations.

Hurricane Help—Students at Southern Adventist University are donating new underwear to Hurricane victims via the “Drop Your Drawers for Katrina” campaign. According to school officials, underwear is not often donated to relief organizations and frequently is in short supply at shelters. Donations will be sent to United Way.

Jamaica—Last week the Adventist Development Relief Agency Jamaica (ADRA-Jamaica) donated pharmaceutical supplies valued at U.S.$1.2 million (about J$75M) to the Jamaican Ministry of Health. The donations, which will boost the stock of much-needed pharmaceutical drugs at the island’s public health institutions, came as a result of a needs list generated by various health institutions in Jamaica following Hurricane Ivan last September.

Britain—The Voice of Prophecy Bible School, also known as the Adventist Discovery Centre, hopes to introduce 1 million people to Jesus with the “Connect One Million” plan. Twenty thousand packs, each containing 50 VOP cards, an information brochure and a donation envelope, have been delivered to all Seventh-day Adventist churches in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Every member is encouraged to distribute the cards in their area. For more information visit www.discoveronline.org.uk.

United States— The Board of Trustees for the Washington Adventist Hospital—which has been in Takoma Park, Maryland for nearly 100 years—are considering moving the hospital to another location within its service area.  The hospital is also developing a health care center in the nearby Long Branch community to improve access to care for under-served populations.

AdventSource and PlusLine—AdventSource, a resource distribution center for the Adventist Church, and PlusLine, an information and event planning service, have just announced a merger effective Jan. 1, 2006. The North American-based organizations have been working side-by-side in ministry for years, and will continue to serve the church in Bermuda, Canada and the United States.

Myanmar—Seventh-day Adventist writer Hla Hla Myint received two awards from the Myanmar Bible Society on Aug. 20 at the Yangon Adventist Central Church. Myint won first prize in article writing and third in story writing.
